Also known as a Reader or Reading Pipe, this is one of the very earliest pipe shapes and still remains popular.
The story goes that Churchwarden pipes were named after night watchmen, from the time when church doors were never locked. As smoking was not allowed inside church buildings, these pipes were fitted with exceptionally long stems so the pipe could hang out of an open window and the smoke would waft away into the great outdoors.
The overall length of the fishtail mouthpiece ensures a pleasant cool smoke particularly suitable for an evening's relaxation.
Similar to our signature Zulu or Yachtsman shape, this lean Billiard is one of our slimmest designs, featuring a tall, smartly canted bowl, but with a more streamlined silhouette.
Our entry-level Churchwarden line, Churchwarden Rusticated pipes combine our elegant range of long-stemmed Churchwarden designs with our iconic, two-toned rustication, accented by a bright metal band, offering a pleasant texture and a scholarly, old world aesthetic.
Since 1945, we have crafted a range of Churchwarden pipes. Modelled after the old clay tavern pipes of yesteryear, they are among our most slender and elegant designs, featuring a number of smaller bowl shapes paired to elongated fishtail mouthpieces, and available in a variety of finishes.
